When expecting a baby, you start wondering, planning and questioning. Things are changing and exciting times are ahead. Everything should be ready for your child. It should feel snug and safe in its new home, its nest. That is why Nesting (by WECF) wants to support you in many new and important decisions and the start of your life together with your baby.
What we do!
Every day we are exposed to harmful chemicals, through plastics additives, pesticide residues, flame-retardants, heavy metals and other substances. Only few consumers are aware of this. Through Project Nesting we published a series of 10 pocket guides in different languages on how to avoid harmful chemicals in various consumer products. Through our websites and social media channels we inform young parents how to create a healthy, non-toxic environment for children. In Germany we developed a Nestbau app for smartphones. We organise training sessions and workshops for consumers, parents, health care experts, staff or retailers. We bring our best practices to governments, and promote replication at larger scale, nationally and internationally.
Informed choices
During your pregnancy and in the early stages of life, you and your baby are extremely vulnerable to external factors such as hazardous chemicals. It is widely known that alcohol, cigarettes and specific foods should be avoided. Less well known is the fact that chemicals contained in food, food packaging, cosmetics, cleaning agents or textiles, for example, can also be harmful to our health.
Project Nesting
aims to make sure
consumers can have
informed choices.
Humans are particularly vulnerable to the effects of hazardous chemicals in certain stages of their lives, during pregnancy, childhood, puberty, and later during menopause. Women may develop different diseases then men when exposed to harmful chemicals. We work with scientists, environmental agencies and networks of civil society experts. We analyse products and present policy recommendations for increasing healthy green living for young parents.
Healthy living is taking responsibility for yourself and the wellbeing of others. Each of our daily choices have an immense impact on lives of women and men in areas where they are produced. We can all have a great impact by making healthy sustainable living choices. Our Nesting activities gives tips for non-toxic healthy living. The solutions are there, let’s use them!
