Suntan lotions and insect repellents
A baby’s skin is especially sensitive to direct sunlight. It lacks self-protection and can easily be sunburnt.
The safest is not to expose the baby to direct sunlight. Stick to the shade and use light clothing that covers the skin or a light cloth over the pram. A sunhat should be on the baby’s head. Any exposed skin needs a lotion with sun protection factor 30, at least. Watch out for the ingredients! Once your child is older and is playing in the sun, clothes may shift and expose skin to the sunlight. It is better to apply lotion to the whole skin area. Even water resistant lotion should be re-applied after being in the water.
Insect repellents and children, on the other hand, should not be brought in contact with each other. If the mosquitoes become too much, then apply insect repellent directly onto clothes, never on the skin of the child.
