The little bear cub
Night was approaching in the enchanted forest and the small bear’s eyes were shutting while Father Bear cleaned the fur of his youngster. He put him on his back and carried him into the cave to his sleeping place. Here it was nice and warm; especially as all the bear cubs lay here together. But it took some time till the larger cubs lay down to sleep.
“Good night, my dear”, rumbled Father Bear.
“Good night”, said the little cub. Then he nudged his father with his small black nose and asked: “Can we play in the dirt and splash in the river again tomorrow?”
“Yes, we will do that”, replied Father Bear.
“And will we go fishing again?”, asked the little bear.
“Yes, we will do that”, replied Father Bear.
“And will we go into the forest again?”, asked the little bear.
“Yes, we will do that”, replied Father Bear.
“And I want to visit cousin Babybear”, said the little bear.
“If you want to, you can do that”, replied Father Bear.
“And may I show him, tomorrow, how to catch butterflies in the air?”, asked the little bear.
“Yes, tomorrow you can do that”, replied Father Bear. He realised how tired he was. His cub, on the other hand, seemed wide awake again. “And then we will practice our somersaults, yes?”, asked the little bear.
“Yes, yes”, replied Father Bear wearily.
“And you will rub my fur again tomorrow, yes, Dad, will you do that?”, asked the little bear.
“Hm ... yes”, replied Father Bear.
“And, Dad, can’t we have a look at the stars again, tonight?” asked the little bear.
But Father Bear was fast asleep already. The little bear gave him a nudge, but Father Bear’s only reply was a contented rumble. He was dreaming of the next day. The little bear cuddled up to his father and thinking about the stars he fell asleep and slept until the next morning.
