Snow White and the seven nest builders
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess. Her skin was as white as snow, her lips as red as blood and her hair as black as ebony. Her name was Snow White. And because her evil stepmother could not bear her beauty Snow White had to leave the castle. So she came upon a small house behind the mountains.
As she went into the house, Snow White discovered a small table with seven small plates, seven cups, six small chairs and one stool. The next room contained seven beds and seven windows. On the wall were seven hooks and seven small hats.
Because Snow White was hungry and weary from her long walk, she ate from every plate and drank from every cup. Then she lay across all seven beds. She went to sleep and started snoring like seven men.
Later on, the door creaked open and in came seven dwarves. They carried spades and other tools and were surprised that their plates and cups had been used and the chairs moved. Then they heard the snoring and rushed into the bedroom. Snow White woke up from the noise of fourteen feet.
“Oh, who are you?“, she asked.
“First tell us who you are“, demanded the oldest dwarf.
“I am Snow White“, said Snow White.
“Oh “, answered the dwarf, “you’re the one on the run from the stepmother, right? Well, that explains a lot.“ The dwarf seemed to know all. “If you want to, you can stay with us. You are a bit big but you might still be alright for the testing.“
“Testing? What kind of testing?“, Snow White wanted to know. Not only was she rather big, but also rather confused.
“Ha, you also believe the rubbish from the fairy tales? That we work under mountains and look for iron ore and gold?” The dwarf shook his head annoyed. “If ever I get my hands on those stupid Grimm brothers.” And he shook his head so heavily, that his beard shook. “To tell you the truth, we are carpenters. At night, we wander into town and build the children’s rooms. We renovate, construct furniture and make toys.”
“That’s right“, confirmed another dwarf. “And we are good at it. But we are old men, that is why we need a young human child to test things for us. A kind of material tester, independent and competent, of course.”
Snow White understood and from that day on she could stay with the dwarves. She had a great life testing toys and small furniture every day. And as long as the evil stepmother did not come past with poisoned apples, Snow White lived happily ever after for at least seven hundred years.
