Grandma on a spending spree
„Oh, look how nice!“, cried Mrs Butterbacker, pointing with an outstretched arm to the other side of the shop and heading off in the same direction. In just a few weeks, she would become a grandmother, for the first time. So far, her son had asked her to restrain herself and not buy anything. But today, she could not keep her nesting instinct at bay any longer.
“It is one of our best baby changing tables”, called the shop attendant running after Mrs Butterbacker. “You see, madam, here you have enough space for nappies and child care products. Everything is handy and it is a really big changing table. And underneath are large drawers for all those cute romper suits.”
The shop assistant smiled sweetly.
“Do you also have one of those musical things?”, asked Mrs Butterbacker. “For going to sleep?”
“Of course. We have some lovely music boxes", said the assistant. "Here you can see our product range. And every music box has its own collection of matching hooded towels and bedclothes. There is also this lovely little carpet. Just look at these wonderful matching colours.” The assistant was obviously pleased with her sales skills.
Mrs Butterbaker got excited. “Hm, so all we need is the matching baby”, she said and could not hold back a smile.
In the end she purchased something of all that she was offered: the baby changing table and bed, two cuddly toys and at least five romper suits, a night lamp and a few other things. Heavily laden she arrived back home. Mr Butterbacker opened the door laughing.
“Well, well, well! Do you know what I did this morning?”, he asked.
“No, no idea, but look at all the lovely things I bought”, Mrs Butterbacker began, but her husband only laughed louder.
“What is the matter?”, she inquired.
“Oh, I also went shopping this morning – a baby bed, a pram and some other things – and I took it right away to the children”, he said.
A small “Oh” escaped from Mrs Butterbacker.
“And then, when I wanted to start unpacking, Martin, first of all, showed me what he and Kathrin had bought already. They followed their nesting instinct last week. They have enough stuff for two babies.”
And so Mrs Butterbacker went with her husband to give back all the purchases. But she was happy nevertheless.
