Self-protection in textiles
Even natural fibres are often treated with additives to make the material, for example, moth resistant, crease-free or to fix the colours.
Silk, on the other hand, is naturally resistant to moths. Cotton and linen are sturdy and can be washed in hot water to remove dirt and odours, which attract moths. Thorough airing is enough for wool – as long as it has no dirt specks on it which can then be washed carefully.
