Nesting – the idea
WECF – Women in Europe for a Common Future – leads the Nesting project. It is an international network of organisations that takes action on behalf of women in the areas of health, environment and poverty elimination. One of the most important aspects of WECF´s work is awareness raising about toxic chemicals in our daily lives. Unfortunately, the public interest in this issue has yet to be awakened.
Parents, however, are one group of people who always take part in the presentations by WECF fundraiser, Sonja Haider. They are prepared to ask questions and change their thinking and behaviour for the health and safety of their children. Consumer associations and other institutions confirm this trend. Paediatricians even complain that they can only be reactive to allergy health problems caused by toxic substances and chemicals. The time was, therefore, ripe for an idea.
Positive instead of know-all
Sonja Haider plans on creating something positive. Instead of learning from mistakes, the idea is to provide support from the very beginning to those parents, who want to raise their children in healthy and safe surroundings. And not only in Germany, but in as many countries as possible. And so the Nesting project idea was born.
The Nesting project started with a central information Internet platform in six different languages and expert seminars will follow. Further ideas will be created to increase the project scope. And maybe, in the future, there will be a Nesting label to identify all things that will help your child begin its life in a safe nest.
