Helpful markers
It is not always easy to find your way through the many products. Although we will not suggest specific products and brands we will provide you with some helpful tips to create a healthy environment for your child. These labels can help you:
The Soil Association is the UK's largest and most recognisable trademark for organic products. They set the organic standards for the UK, certificate and inspect organic products to ensure that these standards are adhered to.
- The “EU Flower” is the European Union label for environmental products.
- The “GS” label stands for the safety and technical quality of products. Especially important for toys and children’s furniture.
- The “Oeko-Tex Standard 100” is an international certification system for textiles and garments covering all stages of production. Labelled products are tested by independent institutes for an extensive range of harmful substances based on the latest scientific findings and legal regulations. It is a voluntary scheme designed to encourage businesses to market products and services that are kinder to the environment and for European consumers – including public and private purchasers – to easily identify them.
- The “Blauer Engel” (Blue Angel), the classic German eco-label, highlights products and services that have positive environmental and health characteristics with regards to their production and use. Some of these products you can find also in English shops.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has produced a useful guide to organic labels.
