Nice and dark
At the beginning a baby sleeps at any time during the day. The bedroom should be easy to darken. The child can, therefore, go to sleep easily during the day – even in summertime or in the early evening or morning. Windows with blinds are most suited. Curtains, on the other hand, can also function as room decorations. But here, too, there are a number of things to consider.
The material should be dark or thick enough to prevent light getting through. The curtain should not be too long nor reach all the way to the ground so that the child is not entangled in it or can climb up it. To achieve a better indoor air quality, it is advisable to use natural materials such as wool, cotton, linen or silk. Synthetic fibres, on the other hand, offer poor airflow and can become electro-magnetically charged and therefore attract dirt. You should wash and air the curtains outside before hanging them up. Other textiles, such as pillow cases, should be treated in the same way. To reduce harmful substances in the indoor air, look for the “Oeko-Tex Standard 100” label.
If your child has asthma be aware that all curtains collect dust and should be avoided in that case.
