  • Avoid vinyl flooring and synthetic fibre carpets
  • Choose floor coverings such as; wood or cork preferably with an ecolabel, rugs which can easily be removed and washed or cleaned, or ceramic and natural stone tiles.
  • Avoid laminate due to the formaldehyde emissions 
  • When choosing a wooden floor, make sure the wood is sourced from a sustainably managed forest (e.g. carrying an FSC label)
  • Use low emitting oil and wax or water based emulsions for treating wooden floors; do not apply biocide treatment, use water based adhesives with no or very low solvents for the installation of flooring and carpeting
